interview: Miga de Pan

Hello, this is my first interview and I'm very happy to share it with you.
I asked Adriana Torres (the woman behind Miga de Pan) some questions about her and her amazing job, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

tell us a bit about yourself..

I am a mum of a three years old girl and a leonina passionate about life. I consider myself a very curious person and a hard worker. I think I have too much imagination. Now I think about it, it took me a long time to realize that. I am also grateful for all I have and what I am. My daughter makes me a better person. Education to me is such an essential part of who we are, therefore I send my daughter to a Waldorf school. I wish I had been so lucky ...

tell us about your label and where the name "Miga de Pan" comes from?

I like simple names. Miga de Pan means bread crumbs. My dolls are so softly that “miga de pan” was a perfect name for them!

what is your background and how did you get where you are today?

Since I was eight years old I was convinced I was going to become an architect. After four years studying architecture I discovered that attracted me so much graphic design as architecture, and I started the career alongside graphic design that I also did not finish, I got bored before I graduated. Besides the two careers, I studied Fine Arts, photography, illustration, embroidery and now ceramic.

I have no idea how I got where I am and I don’t know exactly where I am today... but what I know is that I have studied and worked very hard to achieve my dreams. the truth is they are all nearly done. Now I have to keep dreaming to continue making things!

where do you get your inspiration from?

Primarily from my little girl and then I can be inspired wherever I find glimpses of creativity and sensitivity. may be a film, a painting, a story or a song. anything that excites me probably will inspire me …

Paul Klee, David Lynch, Pina Bausch, Ruyichi Sakamoto, Julio Cortázar, Le Corbusier, Charles Harper,  Hayao Miyazaki, and many many others!

what do you love most about what you do?

The possibility of creating is what I most love about my work. Sketching, creating new objects, thinking about the shape and choosing colors ...

I also love to connect and to meet new people all the time! Remote places people feeling and thinking like me ... That is something amazing that my work allows me. I had the luck to be chosen to join Argentine Pavilions both, at Maison & Objet Paris and 100% Design London, so I love the chance to travel thanks to my job!

I feel I am a very lucky person.

what new things can we look forward to from "Miga de Pan"?

I'm currently experimenting with ceramics. So next year the Miga de Pan family will extend to new materialities and forms of expression next year. I'm also working on some embroidered illustrations since I was invited to participate in a show in an art gallery very very cute in Buenos Aires. So immensely tired but the same amount of happiness.

what is your workspace like and what is an essential aspect of your working day?

My workspace is very bright and is located on the top floor of my house. It is a part of my home, allowing me to be very close to my daughter, my cat and my plants at any time of day. Working at home is something that I have always dreamed.

you write a blog, do you find that this greatly aids in drawing interest in your label?

Absolutely. The blog allows me an approach and a feedback connection to the people that otherwise would not exist. I have “created” Miga de Pan through my blog.

what do you love to do on your days off?

When not working I like to draw, paint, embroider, arrange the plants in my garden, knead clay and play with Felicitas. She has an amazing collection of children's books and I really enjoy telling stories to her. I also like watching movies with my husband and reading. Going to eat to restaurants is something I enjoy a lot too.

Hang out with my friends to embroider, eat and talk is one of the things I most like in life.
