interview with Janee from Yellow Bird + Yellow Beard

This time I was very happy to be able to interview Janee from Yellow Bird + Yellow Beard.
One day browsing the web I found her great blog.
Here's the interview. I hope you like it!

Janee tell us a bit about yourself...
Hello everyone! A little bit about me...Well, I'm a Southern California girl living in Boston, MA with my husband and sweet little birdie Luna. I graduated college in 2009 with my degree in Fine Arts (emphasis in Darkroom Photography). I love the woods, chocolate, scarves and watching movies.

tell us about your label and where the name "Yellow bird+Yellow Bear" comes from?
The name Yellow Bird + Yellow Beard comes from my husband's giant yellow beard and my pet parakeet. They are my best friends and the joy of my life.

what is your background and how did you get where you are today?
As I mentioned before I'm from Southern California and I have my Bachelors of Fine Arts. A couple years after I graduated from college I realized I needed a new outlet to keep myself busy and thinking creatively on a daily basis. I had already become involved in the blogging community so starting a blog of my own felt very natural. My shop opened at the same time I started my blog and it also happened quite naturally. I have always loved making things and my husband/friends had encouraging me to sell the things I made online. The kids toys however, stemmed from my best frend getting pregnant at the beginning of 2011. I wanted to have very special, very unique, made especially by me toys to give her. When she opened them at her shower the other ladies started making requests on the spot! It was really fun to see how enthusiastically people responded to them.

where do you get your inspiration from?
Most of my inspiration comes from the people and places around me. I follow many many blogs that I like to browse though for visual inspiration. My husband - who is currently working on his Masters of Fine Arts degree - and friends also inspire me in many ways.

what do you love most about wht you do?
Without a doubt the thing I love the most is the people I get to meet through my blog/shop. I have had the opportunity to meet interesting people all over the world that I wouldn't have met otherwise. Also, I have made several very close friends that I'm so thankful for.

what new things can we look forward to from Yellow Bird + Yellow Beard?
Currently I'm brainstorming several new blog series including one about my favorite tiny treasuries I have collected over the years. As for my shop, I'm working on a brand new line of scarves as well as a few unique handbags.

what is your workspace like and what is an essential aspect of your working day?
Right now my workspace is insanely tiny. I have less than half a small livingroom. We're hoping to be able to move somplace a little bigger soon but fot the time being it's pretty cramped in here! An essential part of my working day is list making. Without my to-do lists I'd never be able to keep track of what needs to get done and when it needs to get done.

what do you love to do on your days off?
What's a "day off"? It sounds amazing! Hahaha, just kidding - well sort of. If I've got free time you can probably find me spending time with my husband, watching a movie, or outside exploring. I love to walk around our new city any chance I get.

tell us 3 handmade project/brands that you really admire.
N.1 Oana Befort's illustrations are beyond amazing, she's extremely talented.
N.2 Danni Hong has recently opened up a brick and mortar shop after building her online empire from the ground up. I'd love to accomplish eveb half of what she has.
N.3 Sabina from Mount Royal Mint constantly amazes me with her creativity and talent. I don't own any of her pieces yet, but I sure would love to!

what do you think is the best thing about having a blog?
I think my answer to that has to be the same as my answer to your fifth question.

what question did I not ask that you would have liked me to ask?
I can't think of anything, in fact I was just thinking about how I should incorporate some of your questions into my "Interrogation" series! Thank you so much Mirta for having me!
